Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient care across three critical surgical service areas: Pre-Operative (Pre-op), Operating Room (OR) Circulator, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN functions as a primary caregiver responsible for patient assessments, care documentation, emotional support, patient transfers, surgical case circulation, instrument processing assistance, and patient education. This role requires comprehensive experience and the ability to work effectively within all three areas to ensure high-quality surgical patient care.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct patient assessments and document care throughout Pre-op, OR, and PACU areas.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families.
• Coordinate patient transfers between surgical service areas.
• Recover patients in PACU following surgical procedures.
• Circulate cases during surgery, ensuring smooth workflow and patient safety.
• Assist with processing instruments and equipment in central sterilizing.
• Adhere to infection control principles and departmental policies.
• Support other staff members as needed in surgical services.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in Colorado.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in Pre-op, OR, and PACU nursing.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform under stressful conditions and maintain professionalism.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk extensively, and perform heavy lifting.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
• Scrub nurse experience in the operating room.
• Knowledge of national standards including IAHCSMM, AORN, ASGE, and ASPAN.

Special Considerations:

• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant sights and smells is possible.
• Mental resilience to work effectively in highly stressful surgical environments.
• Rotational surgical call required, averaging 1 to 2 days per week including weekends and holidays.

Scheduling:

• Full-time 40-hour work week.
• Regular shift hours from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional late days to complete surgical cases.
• Rotational call schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Call rotation includes every other weekend or every third weekend, depending on staff availability.
